Former Tennessee Titans MLB Colin McCarthy has shockingly announced his retirement today via Twitter. McCarthy was a 4th round pick out of Miami selected in the 2011 NFL draft by the Titans. As a rookie, he had 68 combined tackles with 2 FF’s and 2 FR’s. He became team captain in 2012, but due to an ankle injury and a concussion, played only 7 games, but had 38 total tackles and a 49 yard INT return for a TD. In 2013, McCarthy lost his starting position to LB Moise Fokou, but did play in all 16 games with only 5 starts; he had 55 total tackles with 1 INT returned for just one yard and had a FF as well. In 2014, McCarthy suffered a shoulder injury in training camp that required surgery, and put him on the IR for the season. After his contract with the Titans had expired, McCarthy tested free agency, but did not end up signing with anybody, but did make a visit with the New England Patriots. McCarthy retires at the age of 27.
