The Tennessee Titans last victory came almost a year ago (Oct. 3, 2014), and yesterday marked victory number one for the start of the new season. Marcus Mariota shined in the opening minutes of the first quarter, throwing a pass to WR Kendall Wright for a 52 yard score. On the next play, number one overall pick and 2013 Heisman winner) Jameis Winston threw his first NFL pass, but didn’t have much success as Mariota did, for he threw a pass that was picked off and eventually returned for a TD by Titans’ CB Coty Sensabaugh. Mariota would go on to throw 3 other TD passes to Harry Douglas, Delanie Walker, and Bishop Sankey. Mariota finishes the day 13/16 pass completions for 209 yards, 4 TD’s, 0 INT’s, and two rushes for 6 yards, and a 158.3 QB passer rating. Mariota becomes the first rookie QB to throw for 4 TD’s in one quarter. Winston finished the game with 16/33 pass completions for 210 yards, 2 TD’s, 2 INT’s, and a QB rating of 64.0, and 18 yrds rushing on 6 attempts. Winston also made history, joining legendary QB Brett Farve as the other QB to throw an INT on his rookie debut. The no.2 pick outmatched the no.1 overall pick, but it also makes Mariota’s second win over Jameis Winston…as Oregon plowed Florida State in the college football playoffs earlier this year. The Titans are 1-0 but can only wonder how the season will progress? Mariota’s next challenge is to get by the Cleveland Browns (in Cleveland) with Johnny Manziel at the helm. It will be the 2012 Heisman winner vs the 2014 Heisman winner. Will Mariota’s success continue, and will Mariota lead the Titans to a 2-0 start for the first time in 7 years?
