Breaking: Former Tennessee OL Retires After 1 Season in the NFL

Breaking news out of Minnesota: Former Tennessee OL Antonio “Tiny” Richardson is calling it quits after 1 season in the NFL. The Vikings released Richardson earlier in the week after spending most of his time on the IR from having surgery done on both of his knees in September. An elite prospect from the Nashville area, Richardson was a 2 year starter for Tennessee under the reigns of coach Derek Dooley and Butch Jones, and was one of the highest rated prospects signed in the Derek Dooley era. ¬†Richardson declared for the draft early after his Junior season and was not drafted in the 2014 NFL draft; after he declared for the draft, it was speculated that Richardson would be an early round pick. ¬†Richardson was signed as an undrafted free agent with the Minnesota Vikings; it is speculated that most teams skipped over him due to his knee issues. Tiny took to his personal twitter account to issue a statement of his retirement: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank God, (the) University of Tennessee, and the Minnesota Vikings organization for giving me the opportunity to live out my dream as an elite football player. Second, I’d like to thank my close ones for supporting me through this time. My love and passion for the game is Infinite, but I understand that football careers don’t last long and unfortunately mine has ended due to injury. I am forever thankful for my opportunities and I look forward to life after football!” In his time at Tennessee, Richardson appeared in 36 games and started every sing one of them following his sophomore and junior seasons. During his time at Tennessee, Richardson was billed at 6’6 330lbs, but was slimmed down closer to the 300lb mark so he could increase his quickness and to try to carry less weight on his bothersome knees. Richardson was waived from the Vikings organizations after making room on their roster for the 3 OL they drafted in the draft this year.
